Finished Tasks

Project 1 – The Ice Breaker

Description

This project is nothing more than a way of introducing myself to the fellow members of the club. I’ll need to talk about my background, interests, and my personal ambitions.

Time: 4 – 6 minutes

Objectives:

  • To begin speaking before an audience
  • To discover speaking skills you already have and skills that need some attention

Update

This was completed on 3-18-13. I spoke for 5 minutes and 27 seconds. The Ahh-counter counted 7 “ahh’s” during my speech. I plan on focusing on that and reducing the number for my next speech.

A transcript of my speech can be found here.

Project 2 – Organize Your Speech

Description

This project is a little more wide open; I am free to choose the topic.

Time: 5 – 7 minutes

Objectives:

  • Select an appropriate outline which allows listeners to easily follow and understand your speech
  • Make your message clear
  • Use appropriate transitions when moving from one idea to the next
  • Create a strong opening and conclusion

Update

I was told I use “and” to string thoughts together, instead of using it as a conjunction. I’ve noticed this about my speech, so it was nice to have others comment on it. I can work on correcting this with my next speech. I tend to say things like, “I’m going to tell you about,” and then I go into a discussion. More things to work on for my next speech.

The transcript of this speech can be found here.
